Multifunction device: printer/scanner/copier.
Uniprint driver "cdj550.upp" works very well, too. Max
resolution is 300x300. The PCL modifications to allow
"cdj550.upp" to print in 600x600 resolution don't
work. 600dpi works in B&W, but not color. (If you get color
to work, please post!) Other drivers that mostly work are
"cdj670", "cdj1600", and
"pcl3"/"hpdj" (Model=unspec, ColorMode=CMYK).
Other PCL3 drivers may work.
To get all functionality of this printer working under Linux,
especially also the non-printing features, like scamnning, printer
status, maintenance, and photo download from memory cards, use the
HPLIP
driver package from HP.
Copying should just work, it does not need the PC.
This driver is obsolete. Recommended replacement driver: gutenprint
Works well, except color printing is a little dark. Better than many other drivers, though--and uses less ink! Default is 300x300, but 600x600 can be made to work by patching driver. This driver is free software.
